AUCHROISK
Our six release was distilled at the Auchroisk Distillery in Banffshire in Speyside. Production started in 1974, so the distillery will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2024.
This whisky distilled on the 21st December 2010, a remarkable day which witnessed a full lunar eclipse coinciding with the winter solstice. The whisky has matured in a first-fill Oloroso Sherry cask for over 12 years and was bottled at cask-strength of 58.8%.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Burnished Wood.
Nose: Stewed prunes with juicy raisins, laced with crystalline ginger with bitter chocolate. Wafting flint to light a campfire. Reduced there are aromas of warm tyres on tarmac and reminiscent of fireworks in the garden.
Palate: Very rich and heavy sherry influence on the tongue. Gristy crunchy malt like flapjack with scorched currents then toasted rye bread and warm from the oven bread. When reduced a mineralic flavour emerged with hemp, damp grass and a rich and ripe orchard floor.
Finish: A chunky texture at full strength and better unreduced. A perfect warming dram for the autumnal evenings.
